Description
Trees and Underbrush, After Vincent van Gogh (Study)
Acrylic on Canvas Panel
Fine Art by AJ – Alex Johnson
This 8×10 acrylic study on canvas panel is inspired by a woodland painting by Vincent van Gogh. Rather than producing a one-to-one reproduction, the work was approached as an interpretive study, focusing on Van Gogh’s expressive brushwork, rhythmic mark-making, and layered handling of foliage. The composition was developed freely, allowing subtle variations in color, spacing, and movement to emerge naturally.
Short, textured strokes build depth throughout the trees and underbrush, creating a sense of light filtering through dense growth. Earthy greens and muted highlights are balanced to evoke atmosphere and motion rather than strict detail. The result is a hand-painted piece that honors the spirit of the original while remaining unmistakably individual.
Painted traditionally with acrylic on a rigid canvas panel, this piece is stable, archival, and framed with a decorative resin frame. It is a signed, one-of-a-kind study created as part of an ongoing exploration of post-impressionist landscape techniques.
